Starting Tomorrow (things are going to be different)

Handmade book, 2016

With thanks to Chris Funkhauser for inviting me to read parts of it on WGXC's "Poet Ray'd Yo" program.

The book features some language and thought about the movement and containment of people.  The cover is a drawing of "Refugee News", a creative media phenomenon/response to disaster which happened in a refugee camp in Idomeni, Greece.  I believe the camp is now closed.  Refugee news was a "pretend" station ostensibly because there weren't enough media there to broadcast the dire situation of the people fleeing war in the middle east, many from Syrian war specifically, which the US has been complicit in provoking and abetting.  Refugee news was "fake news" that was actually real. The poem that is inside my book is about the effects of disaster and violence on time, and the ability of language to mean and have capital.
